Shillong, Sept 09: In the midst of confusion and protests surrounding the implementation of the new National Education Policy 2020, the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) organized a debate on Friday with the theme “National Education Policy: A Neo-Liberal Onslaught on the fundamental right to education”.
The debate heatedly discussed both sides of the argument, with participants expressing their views both for and against the implementation of the new NEP 2020. Various concerns emerged during the discussion, including doubts about the State’s preparedness for the NEP’s implementation and criticism of the rushed execution.
Prominent professors from the University, along with MLA of Mawlai, Brighstarwell Marbaniang, and the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) President, Robertjune Kharjahrin, participated as panellists. College teachers and students from the university also attended the event. Following the discussion, a lively Question and Answer session took place, allowing the panellists to share their perspectives on both the pros and cons of implementing the new NEP 2020.
It may be mentioned that the implementation of the NEP 2020 as notified by the NEHU Vice Chancellor has faced huge criticism from all sections including the Teachers’ Union, the Student’s Union, political parties and the pressure groups alike.
