Shillong, Sept 6: On the issue of alleged unfair grading practices by North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) staged a protest at the university campus on Wednesday.
The Students’ Union has stated that these practices have placed students at a significant disadvantage in terms of their academic and career prospects.
In a memorandum addressed to NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Shukla, the Student Union urges the university administration to amend the current grading system and also demands that the students of the university receive just marks so as to get a fair footing while competing in various fields, be they academic or concerning employment opportunities.
The memorandum says, “The NEHUSU demands for the students of the university are the implementation of the relative grading system with immediate effect. The NEHUSU also demands to withhold the 2nd-semester results until the implementation of the relative grading system.”
Furthermore, NEHUSU calls for a review of the results from previous semesters for the current batch, in alignment with the relative grading system.
NEHUSU emphasises that the adoption of the relative grading system in universities aligns with UGC guidelines and is widely acknowledged across the country.
