Shillong, Nov 13: After nine days of an indefinite hunger strike by students, NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla appointed Pro Vice-Chancellors for the Tura and Shillong campuses on Wednesday night.
Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh from the Department of Education has been appointed Pro VC for the Shillong Campus, while Prof. Fameline K. Marak from the Department of Garo has been appointed Pro VC for the Tura campus.
The appointment orders were issued on Wednesday night, with the appointments taking effect from November 13, 2024. However, the appointments are subject to approval by the Executive Council.
The demand for Pro VCs for Shillong and Tura campuses had been raised by students, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as various pressure groups.
Other demands include the removal of the Registrar and Deputy Registrar from NEHU.
