Shillong, May 16: President of the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) Sandy Sohtun was released on bail on Thursday.
Sohtun was arrested and sent to judicial custody on April 28, for his alleged involvement in the assault of an assistant professor of the university’s Hindi department.
Assistant professor Hindi department Dr Alok Singh had filed an FIR against Sohtun and five others on April 25, a day after the assault incident took place in his office chamber (April 24).

“Sohtun was released on bail yesterday (Thursday),” NEHUSU general secretary Toniho Kharsati said over phone on Friday.
He also informed that the union will soon sit to discuss and take decision on the issue.
