SHILLONG, FEB 27: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is extending facility under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between NEIGRIHMS and the CGHS on 25th February 2025, marking a historic achievement for the institution and healthcare access in the North Eastern region of India.
Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, Director NEIGRIHMS, expressed his enthusiasm over the agreement, stating that the inclusion of the hospital in the CGHS network will not only provide access to medical care to a large number of patients in the North East Region but also be a step in the right direction to provide enhanced quality healthcare services to the beneficiaries of the region, thereby making a positive impact on the overall healthcare landscape. Dr. Animesh Mishra, Medical Superintendent NEIGRIHMS, described the moment as a historic one that has been years in the making. He mentioned that this milestone is the result of two decades of persistent efforts to integrate NEIGRIHMS with CGHS, which will now benefit numerous individuals who rely on the CGHS for medical support.
Dr. Paokhomang Lengen, Additional Director of CGHS Shillong, highlighted the key benefits of this development. He explained that the empanelment will allow CGHS beneficiaries, including Sitting and Ex-Members of Parliament, Freedom Fighters, serving CGHS/DGHS/Ministry of Health & Family Welfare employees, Government of India employees, and other categories of CGHS cardholders as notified by the Government, to avail cashless medical services at NEIGRIHMS.
Dr. Caleb Harris, Deputy Medical Superintendent and Nodal Officer for CGHS at NEIGRIHMS, provided details on the operational timeline, confirming that the scheme will be fully operational by April 2025, offering CGHS beneficiaries seamless access to healthcare services.
