Tura, July 29: In recent days, the residents of Garo Hills in Meghalaya, have experienced an unprecedented level of heat and humidity, causing discomfort and the residents have raised concerns among the community. Samgar R. Sangma, President of Centre for Environment Protection and Rural Development (CEPARD) in Garo Hills, highlighted the urgent need to address these climate-related issues to ensure the well-being of the residents.
According to Sangma, the rising temperatures and high humidity levels have not only made daily activities challenging but also pose a potential threat to the health and safety of the residents, especially during the summer months. CEPARD emphasized the importance of taking proactive measures to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect the environment for future generations.
In response to these growing concerns, CEPARD called for immediate action from local authorities, community leaders, and residents to work together in developing sustainable solutions to combat the impacts of heat and humidity in Garo Hills. This includes promoting awareness of climate change, adopting eco-friendly practices, and advocating for policies that prioritize environmental conservation.
He further stated that it is essential for communities like Garo Hills to unite and take decisive steps towards a more sustainable and resilient future. CEPARD initiated efforts that promote environmental stewardship and sustainable development in the region.
