Nongpoh, Sept 22: In a tragic incident, a newborn died after being delivered in the toilet of Nongpoh Civil Hospital on Saturday evening.
The mother, Monalisa Langi, a resident of Umden Diwon, had initially been taken to the Umden Primary Health Centre (PHC) after experiencing labour pain. She was later referred to Nongpoh Civil Hospital late on the night of September 20. Upon arrival, she was admitted at around 4 AM on September 21 (Saturday) and provided with medical care.
However, later that evening, Monalisa began experiencing severe labour pain again. Her husband, Richard Rympeit, reported that the attending nurse administered a pain relief pill. Despite this, at around 6 PM, Monalisa, still in immense discomfort, went to the hospital toilet, where she unexpectedly delivered the baby. However, the newborn did not survive.
In the aftermath of the incident, members of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) visited the hospital, and have sought clarification from the authorities regarding the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.
