Guwahati, Nov 13: Engineers and workers of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) are working around the clock to fully repair a damaged railway track in Assam’s Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, where a loaded goods train derailed on October 31, 2024.
“After a partial repair, train services resumed in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section of Southern Assam’s Dima Hasao district on November 3, but full and regular services, including for fully loaded trains, are yet to resume,” an NFR official reported.
The ongoing repairs have disrupted normal train services, affecting the supply of essential goods, food grains, and transport fuel to southern Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram.
All express, passenger, local, and goods trains to Manipur, Southern Assam, Tripura, and Mizoram rely on the single-track Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, which passes through the mountainous terrain of Dima Hasao.
Railway officials noted that a Silchar-bound goods train carrying food grains from northern India derailed inside a tunnel near Mupa on October 31, causing extensive damage to the track.
