Resubelpara, Feb 09: The NGH District Commerce & Industries Centre concluded a two-day-long ‘District Industrial Exhibition 2024’ held at the Industrial Estate in Babupara, Mendipathar, running from Thursday through Friday night.
Thirty stalls from various corners of Meghalaya participated in the event, predominantly showcasing handloom items, homemade delicacies such as pickles, cakes, and candies, along with other goods crafted by Self Help Groups (SHGs) from NGH District.
The annual exhibition, organized by the Department, typically wraps up by the end of March, highlighting a diverse array of crafts including wood carving, food processing, handmade items, and handicrafts. Notably, this year saw the inclusion of bamboo ornaments crafted by women, with support from the Department.
N R Marak, Functional Manager of the District Commerce & Industries Centre in NGH, Resubelpara, emphasized the ongoing training program in Mendima village, focusing on crafting ornaments from bamboo and other natural materials. Marak expressed hope that empowering girls and women with these skills would foster financial independence, leveraging the abundant resources available in the Garo Hills region.
