NGO’s submit written complaints to SGH DC against stopping illegal stone quarrying

Tura, Sept 21: Various NGO’s from the South Garo Hills Chokpot area, FKGJP AHAM, GSMC, and AYWO, have submitted a complaint letter to the Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills District against stopping the illegal stone quarrying at Chokpot Baduragre, in South Garo Hills district.

They submitted a complaint letter to the Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills on September 21, 2023.

In their complaint, it was mentioned that Alpha Marak, a contractor who is not from Chokpot, is forcibly doing stone quarrying at Chokpot Badugre, making fake Nokma documents, and others for her personal benefit.

According to the organisation, on March 14, 2023, citizens of Chokpot area along with GGOs held a general public protest against the contractor to stop the illegal stone quarrying in Chokpot Badugre village, but after the protest, the contractor continued to work and forcibly did so for her benefit, relying on her fake document.

The organisation said that if the contractor continues to quarry illegal stones, the organisation take take different steps against him.
