Guwahati, Nov 8: The district authorities in Assam’s Sivasagar district have promulgated night curfew along the 5 km belt in the state’s territory bordering Nagaland as a precautionary measure to prevent the movement of extremists, anti-social elements and unlawful activities.
A Nagaland government statement said that the night curfew would continue till December 9 from 6 p.m. in the evening to 6 a.m. in the morning.

Quoting the Sivasagar district administration notification, the Nagaland government statement said that movement of any person, group of persons, any vehicular traffic are prohibited during the period of night curfew.
However, magistrates, security personnel and civil officials deployed on duty are exempted from the purview of the prohibitory order, it said.
Assam shares 512.1 km inter-state borders with Nagaland and some patches are disputed.

After a series of Chief Secretary and other top official level meetings, the Assam and Nagaland government last year withdrew their respective forces from the disputed sites.
Though the decades-old Nagaland and Assam border dispute cases are pending in the Supreme Court for many years, the Chief Ministers of the two states held several meetings and are trying to settle the issues out of court.
Many people have been killed, most of them on the Assam side, in the attacks by the armed forces from Nagaland in different incidents in 1979, 1985, 2007 and 2014.
