Shillong, March 22: Community & Rural Development Minister Abu Taher Mondal on Wednesday said the government has created nine new C&RD blocks recently.
“The government has every intention of bringing governance and administration closer to the people,” Mondal told the Assembly.
The minister, however, said there has been no proposal to create new C&RD block for Mawhati and Nongkrem when responding to the supplementary queries raised by opposition Congress legislator from Mawhati Charles Margnar and VPP legislator from Nongkrem Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.
Marngar said that creation of a new block for Mawhati has been demanded by the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong, which had submitted a memorandum to the government in 2021. He also requested the government to consider the demand considering the problem faced by the people due to long distance of over 80km to get to the Umsning block.
Assuring to look into the demands, the minister said the government will examine and take a call as and when creation of a new block is required.
He, however, maintained that there are no fixed guidelines for creation of new blocks but the intention of the government is to bring administration closer to the people.
