No financial irregularities in Laitumkhrah Market Project, says Deputy CM Dhar

Must read

Shillong, April 24: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday outrightly denied that there are financial irregularities in the implementation of the Laitumkhrah Municipal Market redevelopment project.

This came after an RTI activist had recently petitioned Governor CH Vijayashankar and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment project of the Laitumkhrah Municipal Market.

“If somebody is asking for RTI they have to reply to him. If he finds fault, he can go further, there is no issue but the fact is that there are no such financial irregularities,” Dhar told reporters.

According to him, the project is still under construction and there is no question of financial irregularities.

On the alleged cost escalation of the project, Dhar said no official complaint has been received by him on the matter.

RTI activist Napoleon S Mawphniang had alleged financial irregularities, procedural violations, conflict of interest, and environmental non-compliance of the project, noting the 36.8% increase in project costs and a delay of over four years. He called for an assessment of structural safety of the project by an expert committee and recovery of excess payments made to the contractors.
