Shillong, March 11: Minister in-charge Public Health Engineering (PHE) Marcuise N Marak on Monday said there is no malpractice as far as the implementation of the Nekikona Combined Water Supply Project is concerned.
Replying to a question raised by TMC legislator Dr Mizanur Kazi in the Assembly, Marak said, “The complaint has gone to centralised public grievances redress and monitoring system and we have conducted inquiry on that. (However), the inquiry could not establish any malpractice on the part of the concerned PHE, the official in-charge of implementation and augmentation of Nekikona Combine WSS. The work of both schemes are still going on and not 100% completed, either financially or physically as per the field visit, overall work is progressing at a good pace. The payment to the contractor has been made as per the work done and as per contract agreement.” “With respect to the disparity of the figures that appeared in the JJM dashboard with that on the ground it is a fact that disparity exists given the substantial volume of data to be processed and uploaded and the complexities and encounters in the field. However the executive engineer should also ensure bridging communication gaps with subordinate officers, staffs, sub-divisional officers, Junior, engineer’s, etc and the technical staff in the division so that correct information is uploaded in MIS as per the work progress,” he added.
The minister also assured that the department will make all out efforts to ensure the contractor completes the project at the earliest to ensure residents get access to sufficient drinking water supply.
Earlier, the minister informed that the overall progress of the augmentation work is at 87 percent and the project aimed at providing functional household tap connections to 7,178 households.
