Guwahati, June 2: Advocating for an equal share of the property for the wife of a Muslim wife, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said 50 per cent of the property should be given to wife and that is also the view of the government.

He also batted for the marriage of a Muslim man with one woman instead of three. The Assam Chief Minister also called for a legal divorce in the community instead of giving ‘Talaq’.

“Assam government is very clear that no Muslim man should marry three women. Don’t give Talaq, give divorce legally. An equal share of the property should be given,” he said.
