Shillong, May 16: The Meghalaya government has claimed that no overloaded trucks were found plying through 24 weighbridges across the state. This was stated in an action taken report submitted to the Meghalaya High Court on May 8 in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Tennydard M Marak.
The matter was heard by the High Court on Friday.

In his petition, Marak had alleged misconduct by government officials in the operation of 28 weighbridges in the state, claiming that overloaded trucks were being allowed to pass without proper weighing, leading to significant revenue loss.
Responding to earlier directions from the court, the state conducted inspections at 24 weighbridges in the presence of the petitioner. According to the report, no instances of overloaded trucks were recorded during the inspections.

However, Dr. P. Agarwal, counsel for the petitioner, challenged the accuracy of the report and sought permission to file a rejoinder.
Granting the request, the bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice W Diengdoh allowed time for the rejoinder to be filed by June 6, 2025.
