Shillong, May 5: One house at Nongagang village in Marngar, belonging to the village headman, was gutted by fire, with loses estimated at over Rs. 5 lakh.

The headman, O Binong, is said to be a close related to late Walinda Binong, a fashion designer student who died mysteriously in Mody University, Rajasthan.

According to the information, the incident happened on the night of May 4 at around 10 PM when the family members were present at late Walinda Binong’s house to console the bereaved family.

Informing about the incident, Binong informed that the family members who were present at his house were busy in household activities till 10 PM, but due to power load shedding that is going on in Ri Bhoi District, the members used candles to light the house and forgot to put them out, which may be the reason that led to the incident.

He informed that overall damage is estimated at Rs. 5 lakhs.
