Precision, Focus and Passion define the Sport

Tura, March 28: BenchRest shooting โ€“ a high precision shooting sport where rifles are stabilized on a bench rather than held by hand, allowing shooters to focus purely on accuracy. The sport demands exceptional skill, patience and adaptability to counter unpredictable wind shifts and mirage effects, making every shot a test of precision.

The journey of BenchRest shooting in North Garo Hills began with Davis Koksi Sangma, a resident of Resubelpara, bringing the sport in 2024 into Garo. Inspired by its challenges and intrigued by its technical aspects, Davis underwent training and secured a commendable 62% score in his first attempt.

Upon returning home, he shared his knowledge and experience with fellow enthusiasts. While not all took interest, a few dedicated individuals joined him, forming the Elite BenchRest Shooters-NGH. The team of six trained rigorously for six months, honing their skills through weekly practice sessions, eventually preparing themselves for the 3rd All India BenchRest Competition 2025.

On March 22 and 23, the team participated in the prestigious All India BenchRest Competition at SPSSA, Palghar in Mumbai, representing Meghalaya. Competing with determination, all six shootersโ€”Anthony D Marak, Davis Koksi Sangma, Jerash K Marak, Namsilchi Koksi Sangma, Rakku D Marak and Salchurak Arenghโ€”successfully cleared the qualifying scores.

The teamโ€™s proudest moment came when Davis Koksi Sangma secured the 18th position, scoring 222 out of 250 (88.8%), earning him a place in the Top 20 Chart. His achievement marked a significant milestone not just for the team but for Meghalaya, making North Garo Hills a name to watch in the BenchRest shooting circuit.

Encouraged by this success, the Elite BenchRest Shooters-NGH extend an open invitation to fellow citizens to support and engage in the sport. Beyond competition, the team aspires to promote BenchRest shooting across Garo Hills and beyond, sharing their knowledge and skills to encourage wider participation.

BenchRest shooting in North Garo Hills is set for a promising future, inspiring many to take up the sport and represent Meghalaya on bigger platforms.
