Gangtok, June 16: North Sikkim district has been hit by flood and submerged the National Highway 10 at Pegong, said officials on Friday.
This comes after heavy rains lashed North Sikkim on Thursday night, which resulted to overflow of nearby rivers leading to the flash flood that engulfed the highway.
Officials said that areas like Lachen and Lachung in North Sikkim have been cut off from the rest of the state due to flash flood after heavy rain.
The officials also informed that flash flood has also damaged the infrastructure along the highway, making it unsafe for vehicular movement of any kind.
Currently, the local authorities are keeping an eye on the situation and Border Roads Organisation are also working to clear the debris and restore normalcy.
Officials also said that it may take some to clear the highway so that it can be reopened for traffic.
