Shillong, Nov 6: Irene Hujon, former President of the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) and a noted activist passed away at age 69, on Thursday in Woodland Hospital, Shillong.
Her condition deteriorated after suffering a leg injury. She had sustained injury while traveling to Ri-Bhoi District.
Kong Irene was the founding member of the CSWO, an organization that works for the protection of the Rights of Women and Children. She made headlines during the MBOSE issue in 2005. She also contested the MLA election way back in 2008.
Not only being the President of CSWO, but she was also a philanthropist who was always ready to help someone regardless of their community. She was the protector of women’s rights and has helped the downtrodden in her early days.

Kong Irene Hujon’s last rites will be held on Saturday at the All Saint’s Cemetery.
