NPP condemns fake news on minister’s assassination

Williamnagar, February 14: The National People’s Party (NPP) of East Garo Hills has strongly condemned the circulation of fake news on social media, falsely alleging that Marcuise N. Marak, Cabinet Minister of Meghalaya and local MLA of Williamnagar, was assassinated by the militant group GNLA.

In an official statement, Benedict Sangma, District President of NPP, East Garo Hills, expressed deep concern over the misleading information and questioned the motives behind its spread.

“What does the person or persons behind this fake news want to achieve? Is it an attempt to create chaos and confusion among the people?” the statement read.

The party has urged the police to launch a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

Highlighting the dangers of misinformation, the NPP cautioned that such baseless rumours could have serious consequences. It called on the public to verify information before sharing it on social media. Authorities are expected to take necessary action against those spreading falsehoods that could disrupt peace and stability in the.
