Nongpoh, Feb 17: Ahead of the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly Election, National People’s Party (NPP) in Ri Bhoi District is marching ahead to garner more support by holding mini public rallies in different parts of the district. Such a rally was held in the Jirang Assembly Constituency at the Patharkhmah ground.
The public rally of the NPP was to make its camp stronger to garner support for the party candidate and its MLA Sosthenes Sohtun. The rally was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Sosthenes Sohtun, Jirang MDC Victor Rani and other NPP top leaders from the state and the district unit.
Speaking at the rally, Sohtun stressed that Jirang Constituency still needs more developmental projects and upliftment in different sectors, which is still to be completed as his term of five years is not enough for completion of these projects, apart from different development projects worth more than Rs. 578 crores that the constituency had received in the last five years.
He also said that Jirang Constituency has witnessed massive development especially in road connectivity such as the major road project from Umdu, Killing to Umsen, growth in education sector, the upgradation of the Patharkhmah Civil Sub Division, Byrnihat PHC to CHC and others.
“Though as the legislator I have tried my best to complete many projects that the people of Jirang Constituency have been eagerly waiting for decades, still there are allegations from different quarters that I had done nothing in my tenure. But people of this constituency will answer that 27th February which will be the polling day,” Sohtun asserted.
Addressing the gathering, Prestone Tynsong firstly lauded the efforts of Sosthenes Sohtun as the legislator, as he has done a tremendously job in bringing changes for all round development of the Jirang Assembly Constituency, which had been left out and remained undeveloped for decades.
He also said the state government led by the NPP party in these five years had been very serious for the growth of the state and its people in bringing great changes in developing the state in various sectors and the betterment of the citizens of Meghalaya.
He further challenged that if the local legislator has not done anything in these five years, then the people accusing him must file an FIR.
