NPP leader slams VPP for failing to provide evidence on corruption allegations against Govt

Shillong, Feb 17: NPP leader from Mawphlang constituency Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang on Monday slammed the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) for failing to provide necessary evidences to substaintiate its corruption allegations against the NPP-led state government.

“The VPP and its so-called leaders have been alleging that the NPP-led government is corruption but these are totally baseless allegations as they have failed to provide evidences to substantiate their claims,” Lyngdoh said while speaking at an election campaign at Pynursla market for garnering support to party candidates – Grace Mary Kharpuri from Nongshken and Rahboklang Tynsong from Langkyrdem-Laitkroh.

“Despite their unfounded allegations, we have not seen the VPP has filed a single PIL or FIR against any department or minister in both the MDA government I and II. This is because they don’t have any evidence to proof their allegations against the NPP government which we can conclude that they are simply making baseless allegations,” he alleged.

Reminding that the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) had merged with the NPP based on the good works of the present government, Lyngdoh, a former PDF leader said, “The VPP also alleged that NPP is not for the jaidbynriew but I urge you to judge the good works of the party ever since the time it took over the government in 2018.”

He citied, “Seventy-two years have passed, the Congress, UDP, PDF in their manifesto during elections that if they are voted to power they will resolve the boundary issue. Who has taken the bold decision to resolve age old boundary dspute with Assam, it is the NPP-led government. 6 of 12 areas of difference have been resolved and an agreement was signed between Meghalaya and Assam in presence of Union home minister in Delhi on March 29, 2022
Six remaining areas of difference will soon be resolved and Meghalaya will get its own boundary. Is it not NPP which has make this happen now.”

“Also in regards to the issue of CAA, which seeks to give citizenship to illegal immigrants, it is the NPP that led a delegation to the Centre for exempting Meghalaya from this particular Act. Who then has stood for the jaidbynriew is it not the NPP? On the new EIA notification 2020 to extend border for 50 kms, here also it is NPP that stopped the applicability of this notification in Meghalaya. It is the NPP that did not shy away from its responsibility by passing a resolution to urge the Centre for implementation of the ILP, inclusion of Khasi language. Is this not being done for the jaidbynriew?” Lyngdoh asked.

On the other hand, Egenstar Kurkalang said, “VPP is good at alleging others of corruption but they have not given any report on the money they collected from the people in every public meeting. Have you got any report on this? They are good at attacking others despite the government is attending to every need of the citizens in terms of PDS, schemes, water etc.”

Stating that Pynursla has witnessed great development for the past 7 years, he said, “We cannot compared the amount of development it is getting now to the previous years. Therefore, I urge the people not to listen to a party, which is good at giving lip services only.”

Referring the VPP as anti-government and anti-development party, Kurkalang said, “Despite claiming of having professors and experts as its members sadly not a single suggestion of this party has reached the table of the government. They failed to provide suggestion on education, employment but they are quick to shout in the streets.”

“Go and ask the people of the four constituencies, you will know that they (VPP MLAs) don’t want to bring development except misleading with minformation and false claims. This reflects that it is a direction less party. They want to do whatever they want,”he added.
