SHILLONG, JUNE 6: Ruling National People’s Party (NPP) state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday welcomed the demand of the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) for investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into any alleged corruption in Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “I think the president of VPP that he will tell his newly elected MP to make sure that ED and CBI step in our state. As president of NPP and also as deputy chief minister in the MDA government, we welcome this because all these years they keep talking about corruption, corruption and corruption and I also used to clarify but it seems people tend to believe that Prestone, Conrad or Sniawbha and all the ministers are corrupted.”

“So my point is very clear I am here to make sure that I serve for the interest of the state as a whole. I have my own salary, not that I live with corruption, not that I have my house because of that corruption. If I do, I am telling you let people come black and white and tell me where is that corruption happened in which department holding by Prestone or in what way then FIR can be filed and then let the court takes all necessary steps up to the logical conclusion,” he said adding “I have seen the statement made by the president of VPP I welcome its good and let people know where is that corruption happened and let also people understand whether the allegation made by anybody is genuine or not, is substantiated or not, let people understand and let also those central agencies step in the state of Meghalaya, we welcome that.”

Tynsong said, “because see the way they said as if CBI is in their pocket, as if the ED is in their pocket, the moment they won means they can easily bring please come go here go there go to this office go to that office that is why I said even me also I welcome (investigation by central agencies) because see just saying, keep alleging that so and so is corrupted and so and so is full of corruption, it’s good that people should know that’s what I am saying as there are so many layers of process, be it ED or be it CBI or be it any agency state or central agencies, there are procedures and regulations of how to step in and what are the nature of the cases which ultimately leading to the stepping in of those agencies.”
