Itanagar, Oct 26: Security forces have shot dead a hardcore cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Khaplang’s Yung Aung faction (NSCN-K-YA) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district.

“During a fierce gun battle on Saturday, a cadre of NSCN-K-YA was killed on the spot,” an official said.

The official explained that, acting on specific intelligence about the movement of NSCN-K-YA cadres—who have not signed a ceasefire with the Centre—the Assam Rifles launched an operation in Longding on Friday. “The militants attacked security forces, who retaliated, resulting in the militant’s elimination during the exchange of fire,” he added.

A pistol and other war-like materials were recovered from the site, while other militants managed to escape.

The Centre has signed ceasefire agreements with eight Naga groups, including the dominant Isak-Muivah faction of the NSCN (NSCN-IM), extending the ceasefire periodically.
