Shillong, June 21: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), joined the world community in commemorating the 9th International Yoga Day on Wednesday.
The celebration this year under the aegis of the NSS Cell, North-Eastern Hill University, is unique in terms of the participation of NSS volunteers from the seven states of the North Eastern Region.
The celebration at North-Eastern Hill University coincided with the ongoing North East NSS Festivals 2023.
A total of 325 volunteers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim performed various ‘Yoga Asanas’.
NSS Units of colleges affiliated to the North-Eastern Hill University observed the occasion by organising programmes in their respective colleges/institutes. It is also learnt that volunteers performed ‘yog’ in their respective homes along with their kith and kin.
Volunteers took the “Integrate and Encourage Yoga through Life Pledge”, initiated by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Thousands of student volunteers from colleges affiliated to the North-Eastern Hill University, participated in the celebration.
