Tura, Jan 14 : A successful cleaning drive was conducted on 13th January at New Bhaitbari Bazaar under the stewardship of Rakesh Ch. Saha, who represents the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC) Local Chapter (Meghalaya).
The initiative was a significant step towards promoting cleanliness and climate awareness as part of the Garo Hills Climate Warriors Project under the NYCC.
The Garo Hills Climate Warriors Project, is an initiative of the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC), supported by YuWaah and UNICEF and implemented by Bring Back Green.
The project aims to engage youth and communities across Meghalaya in activities that promote environmental conservation and climate resilience.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Ch. Saha said, “this initiative is a testament to what we can achieve when communities come together for a common cause. Cleanliness is not just about our surroundings; it’s about safeguarding our environment and building a sustainable future.”
The event was supported by the New Bhaitbari Bengali Youth Federation, the New Bhaitbari Bazaar Committee, and the All Meghalaya Minorities Labour Union, showcasing the power of collective action for environmental stewardship.
The cleaning drive was followed by an awareness campaign, focusing on the importance of cleanliness and its direct connection in combating climate change.
Under this project, awareness campaigns with youths and school students were also conducted, emphasizing the critical role of young people in addressing climate challenges and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within the community.
The participants of the cleaning drive were honored with Gamocha and certificates as a token of appreciation. The gesture encouraged continued community involvement in environmental initiatives.
