Tura, Nov 6: The National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC) has launched an empowering initiative for young people in Garo Hills, equipping them with climate education and advocacy skills to become ‘Climate Warriors.’ The program, held at Don Bosco College in Tura, brought together around 40 students from Don Bosco College, ICFAI University, J.N. Higher Secondary School, and Tura Government College.
NYCC Climate Warrior Rakesh Saha outlined the program’s three-month training, which will cover climate education, youth advocacy, and environmental research. “This program is about empowering youth to understand the changes happening in our climate and to explore actions we can take to address them,” said Saha, who hopes the training will inspire a new generation of climate leaders from Garo Hills.
Saha emphasized that addressing climate change requires thoughtful planning and innovative solutions rather than quick fixes. During the event, he and Biswajit Paul, Head of the Zoology Department at Don Bosco College, conducted technical sessions on climate change to deepen students’ understanding of the issue.
The event was graced by several notable guests, including Jagdish Chelani, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, and Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, as well as representatives from the participating institutions.
