Shillong, April 16: The East Khasi Hills District Administration is exploring ways and routes to introduce ‘One Way Zones’ in the city of Shillong to curb the rise of traffic congestion.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, District Commissioner (DC) East Khasi Hills, SC Sadhu said, “We are checking the routes and exploring the possibilities of introducing more one-way zones in many areas.”
Sadhu expressed concern that the traffic congestion is due to the rise in the number of vehicles in the city, which is the top reason for the traffic congestion in Shillong.
The Deputy Commissioner urges people to take up public transportation for students and office-goers rather than using their private vehicles, which will help ease traffic congestion in the city.
Sadhu said that the office of the District Administration is in touch with the Transport Department and Traffic Department to come up with solutions to encourage office-goers and school students to use more public transportation.
The East Khasi Hills DC also added that the traffic system in Shillong is old and needs a complete overhaul, not just modifications.
