One arrested in Jaintia Hills for assaulting wife, burning her face

Jowai, Nov 20: The West Jaiñtia Hills Police on Tuesday arrested one D. Dkhar of Latyrke Village, East Jaiñtia Hills, for allegedly assaulting his 33-year-old wife at their residence in a village of West Jaintia Hills (WJH) till she became unconscious.

While the victim was unconscious, the accused allegedly proceeded to burn her face and neck. When she regained consciousness, she informed her family of her horrific ordeal. They immediately took her to Kut village of WJH for treatment by a traditional doctor.

Police informed that the incident happened on September 29 and after a few days of the incident, her husband came and took her to Jowai Civil Hospital, from where she was referred to Civil Hospital Shillong.

The victim was treated and was discharged from the Hospital two weeks back. However, her husband has been absconding since then.

Accordingly, a case was registered and the accused was arrested and produced in court. He has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
