One-day International Buyer-Seller Meet on agricultural produces held in Shillong

Shillong, Mar 29: With an objective to promote exports of potential agricultural and processed food products from the North Eastern States and provide market linkage to the producers, National Design Centre under the support of Agriculture and Processed Food Production Export Development Authority (APEDA) on Tuesday held one day International Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) at State Convention Center, Shillong.

The objective of the event is to create a link between the producers and processors of Meghalaya and buyers from other parts of the country as well as abroad. The ultimate aim is to broaden the base of the export pockets in the state of Meghalaya viz-a-vis increase the employment opportunities thereby improve the livelihood, doubling the farmers income through exports, creation of manpower for export marketing and awareness of exports of fresh and processed food products from this region.

More than 50 participants from all the 8 states of the North East displayed wide range of their agricultural products during Tuesday’s meet.

The North Eastern Region (NER) of India comprising of 8 states is endowed with conducive climatic conditions for production of large amount of fruits and vegetables. In spite of the natural resources & organic food production, the export potential from the region has remained untapped. Being landlocked States, the farmers and entrepreneurs of the region have not received much exposure to the international trade opportunities.
