Tura, March 15: The Indoor Hall in Tura’s Hawakhana area was abuzz with energy and competitive spirit on Saturday as ASMITA Open Table Tennis City League unfolded, advocating for women’s empowerment through sports.
Organized by the District Sports Officer in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, and the Khelo India Centre, West Garo Hills, the tournament served as a platform to encourage women’s participation in sports.
The ASMITA Open Table Tennis City League, with the theme ‘Promotion of Sports Among Women’, specifically aimed to promote sports among women, fostering a sense of competitive spirit. The one-day event featured intense matches in both singles and women’s doubles table tennis.
The tournament saw a total of around 30 participants, all vying for the top spots and the opportunity to potentially advance to the state level.
The winners of both the singles and doubles categories were rewarded with cash awards, medals, and certificates, recognizing their achievements and dedication.
The event highlighted the growing interest in table tennis among young women in Tura, and the potential for these athletes to excel at higher levels of competition.
