Guwahati, April 30: An underground gas pipeline of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) bursted in Assam’s Charaideo district on Tuesday leading to gas leakage in the entire area.
The incident occured at Sonair area in Charaideo on Tuesday morning. ONGC employees reached the spot to stop the gas leakage.
As per locals continuous spewing of gas from the ONGC pipeline has become a threat for the people living in the area.
“Most of the pipelines are quite old and the leak may have occurred due to regular wear and tear but theft of oil may be also one of the reason of the leakage,” stated resident.
Fear has gripped the residents in the entire area after the incident.
