Guwahati, Dec 27: In its relentless crackdown on jihadi elements, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police arrested a most-wanted jihadi during Operation “PRAGHAT” on Friday. The operation took place in Bandhav Gaon under Bilasipara police station in Dhubri district, linked to STF PS case number 21/2024.
The accused, Shahinur Islam (36), son of the late Hasem Ali, is a resident of Khudhigaon Part-II, under Bilasipara police jurisdiction. The STF recovered several items from his possession, including the books Nuriliza (Urdu, 829 pages) and Jana Wazib (by Sheikh Nazibullah Hakkani, 47 pages), as well as a PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport, and a mobile phone.
A senior STF official stated that the confiscated materials will undergo detailed analysis to uncover potential extremist links.
This arrest is the second operation against jihadi activities by the STF this week. On December 24, two members of the Bangladesh-based terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)—affiliated with al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS)—were arrested in Namapara, Kokrajhar district. The operatives, Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdha, were reportedly planning significant terror activities. Their apprehension has been described as a major success in averting potential threats from global terrorist networks.
Last week, eight ABT operatives were arrested in Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala.
