Shillong, Aug 30: Over 1,28, 551 farmers are engaged in arecanut cultivation in the state.
This was informed by Minister in-charge Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ampareen Lyngdoh, in a reply tabled in the Assembly on Friday.
The minister, however, said there has been a drop in the price and demand for arecanut.
The rise and fall of prices of commodities is dependent on the demand and supply forces of the market.
The government through various interventions is supporting the farmers to overcome the market price volatility of agri-products, she said.
