Tura, March 6: More than 500 young participants gathered at Don Bosco School in Baghmara for a two-day kickboxing coaching session that began on Thursday.

The event, organized by the All Meghalaya Kickboxing Association (AMKA) aims to introduce and promote the sport among youth in Garo Hills.

Leading the training were two experienced coaches—Ibadahun Doris Khar Syiemlieh, a 1st Dan Black Belt National and State Coach and Royalson Lapang, a State Coach. Both instructors guided the participants through the fundamentals and techniques of kickboxing, many of whom had never played the sport before but showed great eagerness to learn.

AMKA president Samuel Hashah expressed his delight at the high level of enthusiasm among the trainees, making the coaching sessions smooth and engaging.

He said that the association is fully funding the initiative without any government assistance, including providing necessary equipment for the participants.

“Our objective is not just to train young athletes but also to instill a sporting spirit in them, steering them away from bad influences,” Hashah stated.

The association has planned to continue its kickboxing training programs across Garo Hills, with upcoming sessions scheduled next week in Siju, Tura and Williamnagar.
