Shillong, Dec 10: Over 749 water sources in Meghalaya have been identified as “critical”.
According to PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak, measures will be taken to revive and protect these water sources.
“Last year, around 749 water sources were identified as critical sources. Rectification measures are going to be taken (to revive these water sources),” Marak told reporters.
“Accordingly, experts have been called and project preparation is on. Hopefully, once it is completed, we will be able to implement (the projects) I think within this lean season,” he said.
To a question, Marak said, “I cannot tell you right now because detailed project report (DPR) preparation is on the way and experts are also trying to find out the most critical ones (first). They are on the field now to study the critical sources and accordingly they will prepare DPR.”
Further, the minister informed that the government is contemplating to implement the Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor the water quality of rivers and water bodies across the state.
“We are going to implement the IoT in most of the sources so that we get automatic alerts for the maintenance of these sources and then we can take corrective measures accordingly,” he asserted.
