Tura, Dec 2: Over 90 young archers gathered at the Montfort Centre of School Education in Tura on Monday to participate in the Open Selection Cum Coaching Camp organized by the West Garo Hills Archery Association (WGHAA) in collaboration with the District Sports Office, Tura.
The six-day camp (Dec 2 to Dec 7) aims to identify and train promising male and female archers aged 14 and above from the West Garo Hills region. The selected participants will be prepared to represent the district in the upcoming Meghalaya Games, with the long-term goal of grooming them for opportunities in professional archery.
On the first day, participants received a comprehensive introduction to the basics of archery, including warm-up exercises and theoretical training on the use of the bow and arrow.
The recently formed WGHAA is dedicated to revitalizing both professional and traditional archery in the region. It seeks to engage local youth by fostering a culture of archery excellence that blends modern techniques with traditional practices, ultimately empowering young talent to compete at regional and national levels.
