Tura, Feb 27: The first edition of the P.A. Sangma Memorial Basketball Tournament, organised by the Tura Basketball Club, kicked off on Thursday at Don Bosco College, Tura.

The tournament features 12 teams from across Meghalaya. However, each team is allowed to bring players from outside the state, especially national-level players, to provide much-needed exposure and to enhance the overall performance of local players.

Sponsored by the Chief Minister’s Special Grant, the tournament is also supported by the West Garo Hills District Administration, the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, and co-sponsored by Nivia Sports Pvt. Ltd., The Meghalaya Express, and Hub News.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Nipon Hajong, ADC, as the chief guest, along with Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College and Empul Ch Marak, SDSEO, Ampati.
