Pak Military fully prepared to defend sovereignty and territorial integrity: NSC
Shillong, April 24: Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on Wednesday, amid escalating tensions in the region following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on April 22.
The NSC issued a strongly worded statement condemning India’s “unilateral and unjust” measures taken in the aftermath of the attack and announced a series of robust countermeasures in response.
The Committee expressed concern over the loss of civilian lives but criticized the Indian government’s actions, terming them “politically motivated, extremely irresponsible, and devoid of legal merit.” Pakistan firmly rejected what it described as India’s “reflexive blame game” and warned against exploiting tragedies for political gain.

Kashmir and Terror Allegations
Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, the NSC stated that the region remains an unresolved dispute recognized by multiple UN resolutions. It accused India of systemic oppression, demographic manipulation, and the suppression of Kashmiri rights through actions such as the forced passage of the Waqf Bill.
Pakistan also reiterated its condemnation of terrorism “in all its forms,” while dismissing India’s attempts to link the Pahalgam incident to Pakistan as baseless and irrational. “In the absence of any credible investigation or verifiable evidence, such allegations defeat logic,” the statement said.
Referring to Indian activities on Pakistani soil, the NSC pointed to the confession of Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav as “incontrovertible proof of Indian-sponsored terrorism.”

Warning Over Extraterritorial Operations
The Committee condemned what it called implicit threats from India and reminded the international community of India’s “state-sponsored extraterritorial assassinations” — acts it said violate international law. Pakistan vowed to pursue accountability for such actions and respond firmly to any threats against its sovereignty.
Major Diplomatic and Security Countermeasures
The NSC announced a series of sweeping measures in response to India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and recent aggressive rhetoric:
Rejection of India’s Indus Waters Treaty Suspension: Calling the treaty a binding international accord, Pakistan warned that any disruption of water flow would be treated as an “Act of War.”
Suspension of Bilateral Agreements: All agreements with India, including the Simla Agreement, are placed in abeyance until India reverses its policies on Kashmir and terrorism.
Wagah Border Closure: Effective immediately, all cross-border transit is suspended, with only valid entries allowed to return by April 30.
SAARC Visa Suspension: All SVES visas issued to Indian nationals are cancelled, except for Sikh pilgrims, who are allowed to stay.
Diplomatic Expulsions: Indian Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors in Islamabad are declared persona non grata and must leave by April 30. The Indian High Commission will be scaled down to 30 staff.
Airspace Closure: Pakistan’s airspace is closed to Indian-owned and operated airlines.
Trade Suspension: All trade with India, including through third countries, is halted.
Military Readiness and Historical Context
The NSC reiterated that the Pakistani military remains “fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” citing its response to India’s 2019 incursion as a precedent.
In a symbolic close, the Committee referenced the 1940 Pakistan Resolution and the Two-Nation Theory, stating that India’s recent actions have only validated Pakistan’s foundational concerns. “The Pakistani Nation remains committed to peace but will never allow anyone to transgress its sovereignty, security, dignity, and inalienable rights.”
