Pala leads Garo bodies to meet Union Minister for AYUSH medical college set up

Tura, Aug 22: Lok Sabha MP from Shillong, Vincent H. Pala took the initiative to lead a students delegation from Garo Hills to meet with Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi for the establishment of a herbal medical centre AYUSH in the region.

A delegation of the All Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (AGHJAC) that comprised of Convenor Balkarin Ch Marak, GSU President Zikku Balgra N Marak, Adviser Roger Benny A Sangma, and others were aided by Shillong MP Vincent Pala in meeting with the Union Minister and the submission of a memorandum.

The delegation pointed out that Garo Hills is blessed with abundance of forests, herbs and exotic plants and spices which have for ages been used in herbal medicine for treatment.

They mentioned that this rich biodiversity would immensely boost herbal treatment if a medical college or centre of AYUSH is established. It would also help provide employment to many people, they added.

The delegation has also sought Establishment of a central Garoland University in the region.
