Speaking to reporters, Boro remarked, “The primary objective of the Peace Accord was to establish lasting peace and security. Today, we see this objective fulfilled. Before the accord, violence and bloodshed were rampant, and fear gripped the people.”

Recalling the negotiation process, he explained, “When discussions began with the central government, we sought to understand the perspectives of both sides. At that time, the NDFB was engaged in significant operations against the government. However, with a sincere approach by the central leadership, the peace accord was successfully implemented.”

Boro credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for enabling development in the region, saying, “After the accord, development finally came to Bodoland. Under the visionary leadership of Modi, peace and security became a reality for us.”

He added, “Following 2014, when the Modi government took charge, they approached the situation differently and showed a strong commitment to addressing the region’s issues, which had previously seen violence and turmoil.”

Outlining the region’s future priorities, Boro said, “Our primary agenda over the last five years was peace and security. Now, we focus on development and aim to contribute to ‘Viksit Bharat.’ The five districts of Bodoland must not be left out of this vision.”

He highlighted the changing public mindset, stating, “People now want development. Even underground groups have realized that armed conflict is futile — 200 or 300 cadres cannot overpower state forces.”

The BTR Peace Accord, signed on January 27, 2020, involved the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), ex-NDFB groups, the central government, and the Assam state government. The accord remains a pivotal moment in Bodoland’s journey toward peace and progress.
