Pema Khandu urges Deputy Commissioners to find solutions, drive Arunachal’s development

Must read

Guwahati, Jan 17: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasized the need to confront challenges head-on and find practical solutions.

“There will always be problems, but shying away isn’t the answer. We need to utilize our potential to find solutions and move forward. If we use even 40-50% of our brainpower, solutions will emerge,” Khandu said, underscoring the importance of innovation and initiative in governance.

Khandu said this while addressing deputy commissioners (DCs) at the concluding session of the Sashakt Arunachal Conference on January 17 in Itanagar.

Khandu lauded the active participation of DCs during the two-day conference and urged them to implement the ‘best practices’ presented by their peers. “All presentations made during the technical sessions will be shared with every DC to encourage replication of successful strategies,” he assured.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of revenue generation at the district level, revealing that each district would be assessed based on its contribution to the state’s exchequer. “Arunachal’s revenue is growing steadily. DCs must review their district’s contributions and implement measures to improve them where necessary,” he said.

He announced plans to share district-wise revenue performance data with DCs to help them identify gaps and focus areas. “This transparency will foster accountability and guide targeted interventions,” he added.

Khandu highlighted the government’s commitment to decentralization, announcing that each non-engineering department would be paired with a working department for infrastructure development. For example, the Public Health Engineering Department will oversee the Health Department’s infrastructure projects.

Khandu directed DCs to convene brainstorming meetings in their respective districts by January-end to develop roadmaps for district-specific development. He revealed that Guardian Ministers and Mentor Secretaries would visit districts in February for review meetings with DCs and heads of departments.

Unused or defunct assets like polytechnic institutions should be identified and repurposed, he urged, to maximize the state’s resources.

He urged the DCs to ensure the implementation of actionable takeaways from the conference and work towards a prosperous and empowered Arunachal Pradesh.
