Shillong, May 30: In hopes of invoking the divine intervention to save the State from the onslaught of COVID-19 pandemic, an online all faith prayer meeting was organized on Sunday by the Meghalaya government in which various religious leaders prayed to the Almighty God to save Meghalaya along with the entire country and the world.

Appreciating this step of the government, people have taken cognizance of this faith in God as an effective weapon against the COVID pandemic.

The state government sought “God’s intervention” after Meghalaya saw a nearly five-fold increase in active COVID cases this month. The state government had appealed to citizens to attend a special prayer in their homes on this Sunday.

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma thanked the different faith leaders who participated in the Special Program for Prayer on Sunday.

“It was a precious time of prayer and worship and we were all immensely blessed by it,” he said even as he expressed his gratitude to all those that continue to pray for the State and the country. “May God’s grace stay with everyone, may His divine protection stay with all our frontline workers and may He bring healing to our land,” he said.

After the special prayer, Meghalaya Health Minister, A.L. Hek said, “We as human beings, we are trying our best… But we need the divine intervention… the divine intervention only can protect us.”

The people of Meghalaya are hopeful that the current pandemic will ebb soon as the state has been seeing a steady decline in the positive cases since last week and the COVID curve seems to be flattening in the state.

Aroop Barua, Secretary of Shillong Buddha Temple, said, “We prayed for everyone in the world as well as for those in the State of Meghalaya.”

He appealed to the people to stay safe, take care and stay home, and “We will overcome”.
At the same time, he also gave his condolences to the departed souls and their families that lost their life to the corona virus.

Osim Dey, the secretary of Kali Mandir, Polo, said the initiative of the state government is appreciated even as he said they offered prayers for the well being of everyone in the State. “It is a welcome initiative during this pandemic along with the frontline workers and our medical fraternity who are working their best to save us through this difficult time. At the same time, along with the service, we have to pray to the almighty. Through the prayers we can overcome the difficult times. I’m sure the god is always with us,” he said.

Resident Priest of Kali Mandir, Polo, Siwanand, said, “We prayed for the whole world, entire country and our state. We believe that this prayer will be quite fruitful.”

Stressing on the power of prayers, he said, “We need the power of god and we need this power as early as possible to defeat COVID.”

Along with vaccination drive, people are hopeful that they will be able to get back to their normal lives in a few months.
