Shillong, Dec 12: The North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union (NEPMU) on Monday once again threatened to halt the transportation of any petroleum products to Meghalaya starting from Tuesday, December 12, if their members are not released from jail.
In a letter to Commissioner & Secretary’s Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Govt. of Meghalaya it stated that their union members have not been released from the Jail despite continuous efforts of their lawyer.
“Our members still under Jail custody at Nongpoo (Nongpoh) and other location due to the Meghalaya Police caught in the name of malpractices of Petroleum products on 24.11.2023. After that we appealed to the honourable Minister F & CS on 27.11.2023 and a high level meeting were held under your leadership and decided that no unnecessary harassment will given to the innocent T/T members. For bailing of the persons under Jail custody Union should maintain legal process and follow the rules and regulations of the Oil management,” said Ramen Das, the General Secretary of North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union.
Das added that the Union members continue “suffering harassment unnecessary”.
Agitated over the continued harassment, he said the union members have decided to not take any load of petroleum products to Meghalaya from December 12, 2023 till their union members are not released from jail.
