Tura, Mar 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi digitally inaugurated the tourist facilitation centre at Katta Beel virtually through video conferencing from Srinagar in a program held at the DRDA Conference Hall, DC Office, Ampati, today, by the District Administration, Southwest Garo Hills, and Tourism Department. There are several projects in Meghalaya under the Swadesh Darshan scheme among which Katta Beel is one of them.
This Tourist Facilitation Centre at Katta Beel, Nogorpara was sactioned in 2019-20, for an amount approximate of Rs 2.65 cr under the Swadesh Darshan scheme by the Govt. Of India. This facility is equipped with 5 rooms with attached baths on the first floor and kitchen, cafeteria, and lounge area on the ground floor, and with a placid lake of Katta Beela also known locally as Chimite.
The maintenance and functionality of this Katta Beel has been handed over to the Deputy Commissioner, which will be later outsourced to a third party and henceforth the charges applicable shall be determined.
The event saw the presence of Subir Marak, MLA, Rangsakona constituency, Manju Mann, Under Secretary at Ministry of Tourism, Govt. Of India; R. P. Marak, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Southwest Garo Hills; Vikas Kumar, IPS, SP, Southwest Garo Hills; Stevie Marak, MDC, Boldamgre; Linekar Sangma, MDC, Nogorpara among other guests.
The Prime Minister was on his visit to Srinagar for the Viksht Bharat Viksht Jammu & Kashmir programme today, where he virtually launched and inaugurated 53 projects across the country through video conferencing under various nationwide schemes by the Govt. Of India.
