Tura, June 27: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani, informed that all six men involved in the public flogging of a woman at Lower Teksagre village under Damal Asim Police Station in Dadenggre have been nabbed by West Garo Hills police.
Until yesterday evening, only five had been arrested as one was absconding. However, with the tireless efforts of the police, the sixth accused was also nabbed late Wednesday night.
The West Garo Hills police picked up two of the attackers from Lower Teksagre village itself. The other three, after fleeing from home, surrendered themselves to the police at Jengjal Police Station and have been brought back to Tura to stand trial.
It may be mentioned that a video went viral on Wednesday, showing a young woman being subjected to a public flogging in a medieval-style punishment.
Following the viral video, the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and will meet with the victim, following up for further necessary action to be taken.
