Tura, June 27: A team of armed SF-10 commandos have been deployed for patrol duty in Tura Sepoy Colony, next to Akonggre locality, after goons who came in a vehicle barged into a meeting of the development committee and badly attacked two brothers who are residents of the colony.

The angle of suspicion is on the president of the Sepoy Colony Development Committee Mitison D Sangma and his wife Terak M Sangma, who had previously been threatening one of the brothers for filing an FIR with Tura police after he was beaten in public by the president’s wife.

Mitison Sangma is brother of former Raksamgre MLA Lemison Sangma and current Tikrikilla MLA Jimmy D Sangma.

As per police statement, Abhijit Dutta of Sepoy Colony had filed a police FIR on 22nd June 2022 in which he reported that he was assaulted while undertaking repair of his damaged water pipe on the roadside.

During the restoration of the pipe that was broken when the road was being repaired, a heated conversation had taken place between him and the colony president and the wife.

In the FIR, he complained that Mitison Sangma’s wife trashed him in the face and the back in front of the public humiliating him. He also alleged that the couple threatened him that he could not stay in the locality.

A case was registered and investigation was started by Tura police.

With the filing of the FIR, he was allegedly subjected to more threats by Mitison Sangma and his wife Terak M Sangma.

Terak Sangma also filed a counter FIR against Abhijit Dutta on Saturday  but admitted to physically assaulting him with a slap during a heated argument by both parties.

To make matters worse, some people out to create communal tension also started to put up fake news on Facebook social media against the victim.

The ongoing saga became a law and order issue after a gang of local goons suddenly arrived in a black scorpio vehicle to the colony on Sunday afternoon and barged into a meeting of the development committee that was taking place at 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

The gang targeted Abhijit Dutta and his brother attacking both of them causing injuries to their bodies.

Tura police rushed its patrol party to the area and took both the injured to hospital while investigations have been launched to nab the culprits behind the attack.

“A half Platoon of SF-10 is being deployed in Sepoy Colony temporarily. Peace Committee meeting will be held tomorrow and at the same time Investigation is underway,” informed West Garo Hills SP V S Rathore.
