Police summons HYC leaders over Lum Survey eviction drive

SHILLONG, MAY 27: The state police have issued summon notices to leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) for allegedly carrying out an ‘unlawful’ eviction drive at Lum Survey.

This was after a case was registered against HYC president Roykupar Synrem, vice president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh and assistant general secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit on May 23.

The notice has directed the HYC leaders to appear before the investigation officer at Sadar police station.

“During the investigation of FIR… registered at Shillong Sadar police station, it is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you in relation to the present investigation. Hence, you are directed to appear before me at 1 pm on May 28 at Sadar police station…Failure to attend/comply with the terms of this notice, can render you liable for arrest under section 41 A (3) and (4) of CrPC,” the notice issued by Sub Inspector BS Sangma said.

On Saturday, the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) took a suo motu cognizance pertaining to residents crying for help after demolition at Lum Survey.

The Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report on or before May 30, he said.
