Tura, Mar 14: In connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections a meeting was held with all the Sector Officers of the three Assembly constituencies under Southwest Garo Hills district. The meeting was convened by Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer for 53-Ampati, 54-Mahendraganj and 55-Salmanpara.
To ensure smooth functioning the responsibilities were discussed in the meeting regarding election management from announcement till completion of the poll process for the upcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024.
The District Election Officer briefed about the pre-poll responsibilities and requirements, and insisted on Sector Officers to personally visit the polling stations under their respective sectors without solely depending on the block level officers (BLOs).
The Sector Officers were also briefed on the poll responsibilities, Model Code of Conduct, and other important aspects of election through a power-point presentation by District Informatics Officer, E. Marak.
The meeting was also attended by Addl Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, including the Nodal officers of various cells constituted at the district level for the forthcoming elections.
R.P. Marak, District Magistrate, Southwest Garo Hills, has also directed all Arms license holders under the district to deposit their arms at the nearest police stations with immediate effect, to ensure free and fair conduct of election in the district.
Earlier the first round of training to the polling personnel was conducted in three batches on Monday last.
